Caper - May you rest in peace

The talented and quirky Ludacris passed away in February 2010 at the young age of 12 years old. Caper (as he was known in the barn) was one of the kindest, talented and unique horses I have ever had the opportunity to ride. Not only did he have an absolute heart of gold, but he had as much character and personality as most people I know. Some of my fondest memories include trail riding through Cambell Valley Park with the basset hound, riding bareback around the Arbutus Meadows show ground for fun after horse show hours and many, many fantastic wins in the show ring. Oh I cannot forget my friend Telf happily playing STAND UP by the real Ludacris whom Caper was named after when I showed in the ring at Crescent. Great times.

Caper had many talents including unzipping vests, jackets, shirts - taking off hats with his teeth, spooking at absolutely nothing for the pure fun of it and bucking me off at random times just because he felt like it. Maybe it was more like bouncing me off with his very different way of cantering!

One thing is for sure, if he could have spoken words it would have been something like, "The Olympics? Sure I will happily jump all those as long as there is food on the other side of each jump." Fatty or Hoover Vaccuum as he was affectionately referred to would literally do anything for food. I have never seen a horse eat so fast!

Thank you Caper aka LUDA for all the memories and fun times. You will not be forgotten and I hope there is an unlimited supply of alfalfa and apples in horse heaven.

- Danielle
